Free weighted grade calculator: add each category's weight and every assignment's points, and get your class grade and letter grade so far. No signup.
Free, and no account is needed. The calculation happens instantly in your browser.
Step 1, inside each category: add up the points you earned and the points possible, and divide. Assignments are counted by their points, so a 30-point lab counts three times as much as a 10-point one.
Step 2, across categories: multiply each category's percentage by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight of the categories that have grades.
Formula: class grade = sum of (category % x category weight) / sum of the weights of graded categories.
Homework is 25% of the grade: 18/20, 9/10 and 27/30 make 54/60 = 90%. Quizzes are 15%: 8/10 and 7/10 make 15/20 = 75%. Tests are 40%: 82/100 and 91/100 make 173/200 = 86.5%. The final (20%) has not happened yet.
Grade so far = (90 x 25 + 75 x 15 + 86.5 x 40) / (25 + 15 + 40) = 6,835 / 80 = 85.4%, a B.
If you then score 92 on the final: (6,835 + 92 x 20) / 100 = 86.8%, still a B, just under the 87% B+ line. To work out the final score you need for a B+, use the final grade calculator.
Find your percentage in each category (points earned divided by points possible), multiply each by the category's weight, add those up and divide by the total weight of the categories that have grades.
A plain average treats every assignment the same. In a weighted class a test category worth 40% moves your grade far more than a homework category worth 10%, and inside a category a 100-point test counts more than a 10-point quiz.
The calculator divides by the weights you entered, so a class that is only partly graded shows your grade on the work done so far. If the full syllabus adds up to more or less than 100, check it with your instructor.
Points. Enter each assignment as points earned out of points possible, for example 27 out of 30. For a percentage score, enter it out of 100.
Leave the dropped assignment out of its category. The calculator only counts what you enter.
