Test grade % = (questions - wrong) / questions x 100. With points instead of questions: (total points - points lost) / total points x 100.
Example: 25 questions with 4 wrong is 21 / 25 = 84%, a B. On a 40-question test, 7 wrong is 33 / 40 = 82.5%, a B-.
Points example: an 80-point test where you lost 9 points is 71 / 80 = 88.75%, a B+.
Each question is worth 100 / (number of questions) percent. On a 20-question test every miss costs 5 points, so 2 wrong (90%) is still an A- and 3 wrong (85%) is a B.
On a 50-question test each miss costs 2 points: 5 wrong is 90%, 7 wrong is 86%. The chart on this page lists every case for your test length.
Subtract the number you got wrong from the number of questions, divide by the number of questions and multiply by 100. 21 right out of 25 is 84%.
On this scale an A starts at 93% and an A- at 90%. On a 20-question test that is 1 wrong for an A and 2 wrong for an A-; on a 50-question test, 3 wrong for an A and 5 for an A-.
Enter the test's total points as the number of questions and the points you lost as the number wrong. The formula is the same.
Yes. Enter the number of questions and use the chart, which lists the percentage and letter grade for every number wrong, up to 100 questions.
On the common US scale used here, 80% is a B-, 83% a B and 87% a B+. Some schools use a 10-point scale where 80 to 89 is a plain B.
