How it works

  1. Download the blank PDF, or fill in the grid below and print it.
  2. Block out the fixed parts of your week first: classes, work, travel and sleep.
  3. Put study sessions in the gaps, naming the subject and the task for each one.
  4. Add this week's goals and deadlines, then review the plan at the end of the week.

Download or print the template

Download the blank weekly study schedule template (PDF): one page, US Letter landscape, ready to print. Or fill in the grid on this page and press Print; the printed page contains only your schedule, not the rest of this website.

What is in the template

One landscape page for one week. The main grid has a column for each day from Monday to Sunday and a row for each hour from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., which leaves room for early classes and evening study. Above it there are boxes for the week's dates, your three goals for the week, and the exams and deadlines coming up.

The PDF prints on US Letter paper, and it also fits A4 if your print dialog is set to fit the page. Print one copy per week, or print a stack at the start of a semester.

How to fill in a weekly study schedule

How much study time to plan

A common rule of thumb for college courses is two to three hours of study outside class for each hour in class, so roughly six to nine hours a week for a typical three-credit course. Treat that as a starting point rather than a target: some courses need more in exam weeks and less in others.

Plan the hours you can actually keep. A schedule you follow for the whole term does more than an ambitious one you abandon after a week. If a planned session keeps getting skipped, move it to a different time instead of adding more.

Reviewing the week

At the end of each week, look at which sessions happened and which did not. The pattern is usually more useful than any single week: if every Friday evening session gets skipped, stop planning Friday evenings. Copy the deadlines that are still ahead into next week's sheet before you start it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the study schedule template free?

Yes. The PDF download, the printable page and the online version are all free, with no account and no email.

Can I fill in the study schedule online?

Yes. Type into the grid on this page and it is saved automatically in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent to Scholarize. Use Print to keep a paper copy or to save it as a PDF.

What paper size is the template?

The PDF is US Letter in landscape. It also prints on A4 if you choose fit to page in your print dialog.

How should I plan a study schedule for exams?

Write each exam date in the deadlines box first, then work backwards: learn the material in the earlier weeks, switch to practice questions in the final one or two weeks, and keep the last days for review. The study schedule maker can lay this out for you from your exam dates.

What is the difference between this template and the study schedule maker?

The template is a blank weekly grid you fill in yourself. The study schedule maker takes your classes, exam dates and weekly hours and builds a week-by-week plan for you.
