Free YouTube Video Summarizer

Free YouTube video summarizer: paste a link and get a short summary plus 3 to 7 key points, written by AI from the captions. One free summary, no account.

Free to try: 1 summary without an account. A free account gives you 2 a month with a saved history; Pro gives you 200 a month. The video needs captions.

How it works

  1. Copy the link of a YouTube video that has captions (subtitles), for example a lecture, a talk or an explainer.
  2. Paste it and press Analyze. Scholarize fetches the video's captions (English first, otherwise the first caption track it finds) and an AI model reads them.
  3. You get a 2 to 3 paragraph summary and the key points as a list. With an account, every summary is saved to your history.

Frequently asked questions

Is the YouTube video summarizer free?

You can summarize 1 video without an account. A free account (no card) gives you 2 summaries a month, saved to your history. Pro gives you 200 a month. A video that cannot be summarized, for example because it has no captions, is not counted.

Does the video need captions?

Yes. The summary is written from the video's captions (subtitles). If a video has no captions, or its owner turned them off, it cannot be summarized and you will see a message saying so.

How long a video can it summarize?

Any length, but it reads about the first 8,000 characters of captions without an account (roughly 10 minutes of speech) and about 12,000 with an account (roughly 15 minutes). For a longer video the summary covers the opening part only.

What do I get?

The video title and length, a summary of 2 to 3 paragraphs, and the key points as a short list (3 to 5 without an account, 3 to 7 with one). With an account, each summary is saved so you can open it again later.

Which languages does it work with?

It asks YouTube for English captions first and falls back to the first caption track the video has. It works best on videos with English captions.

Can I trust the summary?

It is written by an AI model from the captions, so it can leave out or misstate a point, and automatic captions can contain mistakes. Treat it as a guide to the video, and check anything you quote or rely on against the video itself.
