Printable Flashcard Maker

Free printable flashcard maker: type term and definition pairs, print double-sided cards lined up front to back, and cut along the guides. No signup.

Free, no account and no AI. The cards are laid out in your browser and nothing is sent to Scholarize; your list is saved only in this browser.

How it works

  1. Type or paste one card per line as term, a dash, then the definition.
  2. Choose double-sided (flip on long edge or short edge) or fold-over for a one-sided printer.
  3. Press Print. Fronts and backs come out on alternating pages, lined up for duplex printing.
  4. Cut along the dashed lines. Eight cards fit on each sheet.

How to format your list

Put one card on each line, with the term first and the definition after it. The maker splits each line at the first dash with a space on each side (a hyphen, an en dash or an em dash), at a tab, or at the first colon if there is no dash. That means you can paste two columns straight from a spreadsheet, and hyphenated words such as "well-known" are not split.

How double-sided printing lines up

Every sheet of fronts is followed by a sheet of backs. When a page is printed on both sides and flipped on its long edge, the left and right columns swap places on the back, so the maker mirrors the columns: the definition for the card in the top-left corner is printed in the top-right corner of the back page, exactly behind its term.

Some printers flip on the short edge instead. Choose that option and the maker mirrors the rows rather than the columns. If you are unsure which your printer does, print one sheet of three or four cards first and hold it up to a light.

In your print dialog, set the scale to 100% (or actual size) and the margins to none or minimum. Fit to page shrinks the sheet slightly and moves the backs out of line.

No duplex printer? Use fold-over cards

Fold-over mode puts the term and the definition side by side on the same sheet, four cards per page. Print one-sided, cut along the horizontal lines, and fold each strip along the solid center line so the term is on one side and the definition on the other. A dab of glue or tape keeps them flat.

You can also print the fronts, put the same sheets back in the paper tray, and print the backs. Test with a single page first, because printers differ in which way up the paper has to go back in.

Frequently asked questions

Is the printable flashcard maker free?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no account, no AI and no limit on the number of cards.

How do I print double-sided flashcards that line up?

Choose double-sided in the maker, print with two-sided printing turned on and the scale set to 100%, and pick flip on long edge or short edge to match your printer. Each page of fronts is followed by a page of backs placed behind them.

How many flashcards fit on a page?

Eight cards per sheet in double-sided mode, each about 3.75 by 2.5 inches on US Letter or 95 by 67 mm on A4. Fold-over mode fits four per sheet.

What if my printer cannot print on both sides?

Use fold-over mode: the term and the definition print side by side, and you fold each card along the center line. Or print the fronts, reload the same sheets, and print the backs.

Is my list saved?

It is kept in this browser on this device so it is still there when you come back. Nothing is uploaded.

Can the cards be made automatically from my notes?

Yes, with the AI flashcard generator, which makes a deck from a topic, pasted notes or an uploaded document. A free account includes 2 AI flashcard sets a month.
