GPA Calculator

Free GPA calculator on the 4.0 scale: enter letter grades (A+ to F) and credit hours for your semester GPA, then add past GPA and credits for cumulative.

Free, and no account is needed. The calculation happens instantly on the page.

How it works

  1. Add each course with its letter grade (A+ to F) and credit hours.
  2. Your semester GPA updates as you go.
  3. To get your cumulative GPA, enter your previous GPA and the total credits it covers.

How GPA is calculated

Each letter grade has a grade-point value. Multiply it by the course's credit hours, add those up, and divide by the total credits.

Example: an A in a 3-credit course (4.0 x 3 = 12.0), a B+ in a 3-credit course (3.3 x 3 = 9.9) and an A- in a 4-credit course (3.7 x 4 = 14.8) give 36.7 grade points over 10 credits, a semester GPA of 3.67.

Cumulative GPA works the same way across terms: if your previous GPA was 3.20 over 30 credits (96.0 points), adding that semester gives 132.7 points over 40 credits, a cumulative GPA of 3.32.

Grade point values used

Weighted vs unweighted GPA

This calculator gives an unweighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale, which is what most colleges report. Some high schools add extra points for honors, AP or IB courses; if yours does, check its own weighting rules, because they differ from school to school.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my GPA?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add the results, and divide by your total credits. The calculator does this as you enter your courses.

How is cumulative GPA different from semester GPA?

Semester GPA covers one term. Cumulative GPA combines every term, weighted by credits, so enter your previous GPA and the credits it covers to see the combined figure.

Does it calculate weighted GPA?

No. It calculates an unweighted GPA on the 4.0 scale. Weighting for honors, AP or IB courses varies by school, so use your school's own rules for that.

Is an A+ worth more than an A?

On this 4.0 scale both are worth 4.0, which matches how most colleges count them.
